Winter Solstice 08: The Year of the Phoenix

One of the most telling part of this years Winter Solstice chart is the location of Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, of regeneration of the Soul Mysteries exactly in the same location as the Sun. The higher side of Plutonic energies serves to eliminate anything that is old, corrupt, decayed and not in alignment with the soul’s purpose. Kali, Siva, Dionysius are a few deities that preside over the Plutonic transmutation of the personality into the Soul. It is capable of transmuting the carbon based body into the Vajra (diamond) Body spoken of in Buddhist and Hindu teachings. It does this through an intense and immense alchemical process of implosion and compression, like taking coal and transmuting into diamond. The mythological Phoenix, who destroys itself in a ring of fire only to arise again regenerate and resplendent from the ashes of its old life is another excellent metaphor that describes this process.

Could the intense purifying fires of Pluto be a preparation for entry into the Light and Love promised by thy ancient prophecies? Pluto is a planet of extremes. The lower nature of Pluto is domination, destruction, betrayal and ruthless pursuit of power. Those who engage in these actions will only destroy themselves. He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword. By engaging in the higher soul purifying nature of Pluto, we have the opportunity to purify the psyche and soma (Pluto rules cellular processes) of any old defensive mechanisms and patterns and become Phoenixed. The choice as always is up to you.

The ruler of a sign always determines the outcome of the matter, which is determined by the placement of the planet (energy) in a sign (a script). , Saturn, the planet of structure and form; of becoming conscious or unconscious) is being opposed (180 degrees: open conflict and opposition) by Uranus. Last year, Saturn was opposed by Neptune, the planet of transcendence. While Saturn works to bring everything into form, structure and manifestation, Neptune does the opposite. It dissolves everything it comes into contact with. Neptune is oceanic consciousness, timeless and formless and ultimately beyond the reality of this earth plane. Look for all the old authoritarian, neo-conservative, patriarchal modes of consciousness and structure to continue to be dissolved by the dissolving influence of Neptune.

Neptune and Pluto are the two most difficult planets to understand. You will never solve their mysteries, otherwise they would no longer be mysteries now would they? But you can live them. Neptune is universal compassion and can be approached through the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism and mystical Christianity. Pluto can be embraced through Kundalini and Tantric yoga practices and through ecstatic Dionysian revelry and the Orphic mystery teachings of life and death. The challenge here is to put them together.

Lastly, (for the sake of brevity alone), we will conclude with Uranus the planet of radical change and transformation in Pisces. Pisces is a spieitual sign that water sign (feeling, empathy, emotional). Here the challenge is to awaken ourselves to the oneness of our universal nature as also symbolized by Pisces. Uranus as a planet of sudden shifts of awareness has associations with the Christ Consciousness. This placement of Uranus in Pisces brings the promise and potential of awakening the Christ Consciousness in all religions (Pisces) and people everywhere (the Nodes). The North Node also symbolizes a point of increase, a movement toward the future.

In closing we can see that although there are challenges ahead, there is a vision and potential seen in the Winter Solstice Chart that is in alignment and agreement with the prophecies of the Mayan Calendar and those of the other ancient civilizations mentioned earlier. Again this is chart for the entire year so these Plutonic, Neptunian and Uranian agencies will be active throughout the year, transmuting, transcending and transforming the collective psyche and soma of humanity. The ride won’t be easy but it will be worth it.
